π§ What Happened
On the afternoon of July 7, 1972, Alice was playing in the lobby of her apartment building on Tysens Lane with her young brother. According to reports, her brother left her alone for just a brief moment — and when he turned back, Alice had vanished.
A witness later claimed to have seen Alice walking with Andre Rand, a painter at the apartment complex who would become a prime suspect in her case, though no charges were ever filed due to lack of evidence.
Her mother reported her missing around 6:15 p.m. that evening, and a search was launched, but Alice has never been found or heard from again.
❗ The Suspect: Andre Rand
Andre Rand (born Frank Rostum Rushan) is a convicted child abductor and sex offender who became known as the so-called “Pied Piper of Staten Island.”
At the time of Alice’s disappearance, Rand was working at the Tysens Lane Apartments. A witness said they saw Alice walking with him, making him a prime suspect, though he was never charged in her disappearance.
Rand was later convicted of other crimes, including the kidnapping of Holly Ann Hughes (1981) and involvement in cases involving other missing children. Law enforcement and investigators have speculated about his possible connections to several Staten Island disappearances over the years — including Audrey Nerenberg, Ethel Atwell, Tiahease Jackson, and Henry Gafforio — but none of these cases has been proven in court.
❓ Still Missing After Decades
Alice’s disappearance remains an open, unsolved missing child case. There is no verified evidence about what happened to her, and no confirmed sightings since the day she vanished.
Despite reports and witnesses over the years, no trace has ever been found, and Alice’s whereabouts are still unknown.
